Beyond the bling

Coming in at number 9....

He stood on the shoulders of many greats... Dr. Dre, Ice-T and Public Enemy yet still managed to forge on as one of the greats of hip-hop. The community is represented in this list at number nine with:

EMINEM

Anyone who thought he was another Vanilla Ice or that a pale skinned skinny boy from Detroit had no groove was soon proven wrong. His ability to strip hip-hop down to just simple beats laid with complex rhymes proved he was not a flash in the pan.

In the tempest of gansta rap he wrote lyrics about being a father or an abused child. He proved that rap could deliver messages outside of the political and beyond the bling. He understands the politics of his industry and of fame and, when it pleases him, manipulates it to his benefit. How many years can he be the center of attention at the Mtv music awards?

A great that belongs in the top 10 most important artists with debut albums released on or after 1990. Welcome to the club, Eminem.

There are only eight spots left and still nine artists. Who will get cut from the top ten? Who will be number eight? Who will be in the top five?

Stay tuned....

List so far

10. Pantera

Ani Difranco
Beck

Rage Against the Machine
Smashing Pumpkins

Cool. Just cool. I'm interested where DMB will fall, since that is the only artist on the list that I have ever truly followed.
